Westside Warehouse Wedding in Atlanta, Georgia

We first met Michelle and Dexter when they flew to Toronto for the weekend to document their sunrise engagement session in the downtown of the city (blog post coming soon). It’s crazy to think that two people who live thousands of miles away from you can somehow be the kind of people that you want to surround yourself with. With our shared love of travel, food, and film, it was like we were long-time friends despite being in neighbouring countries. It’s always sort of wild to think about how photography has allowed me to connect with so many people around the world and it’s truly one of the most incredible aspects of my career as a wedding photographer.

Fast forward to this year, after making our way to Los Angeles, we flew across the country to be apart of this incredible wedding in Atlanta, Georgia at the Westside Warehouse.

Michelle & Dexter have an effortless style and vibe, I knew wholeheartedly that I was in for some iconic moments throughout their wedding day, including Michelle’s white Air Force One Nike sneakers that she rocked with her wedding dress. Not to mention the fact that everyone, including the bride, had tattoos of the groom’s face (temporary ones I might add) which leads to the question - can you really have a badass wedding day style or look if you’re not rocking a tattoo of your future husband or wife? Short answer, no.

Getting to document this timeless love and atmosphere on analog film just made sense, capturing the essence of intimacy, friendship and genuine love wasn’t difficult since the bride and groom had such a fantastic group of close knit friends and family to create memories with throughout the wedding day.

After the emotional first look and vow exchange between the bride and groom we were treated with endless candid moments of everyone living it up and soaking in their entire experience. It was refreshing to be around such a stress free environment in what is typically a whirlwind of a day, we had ample time to explore the grounds of Westside Warehouse and we even got to sneak out and soak up the incredibly soft and pink hues of the sunset light.

The Westside Warehouse was such a cool space. The outdoor terrace, with it’s geometric canopy, was the perfect open environment for the cocktail hour but it also created an intimate space for Dexter and Michelle to privately say their vows. Inside where there was the actual warehouse it was both spacious and bright, a blank canvas for the bride and groom to decorate to their style. This Atlanta wedding venue truly has it all, and to make it even more interesting there is an antique prop room in the back which was perfect for some late night photos of the couple.

After munching down on the incredible Korean food we were treated with for the wedding, everyone partied hard (and I mean HARD). The bride, the groom, the moms and the dads, everyone was on the dance floor until the last possible minute and then to wrap everything up, they gathered for a sparkler exit to send off Dexter and Michelle as they made their way to a local bar to finish up the evening celebration.

The spectrum of emotion and experience was the kind of thing that wedding photographers dream of capturing, and we were lucky enough to be flown to the US to capture it all. This wedding will rank up there and it will undoubtably be one of the most unforgettable experiences of my career and we owe it all to Michelle & Dexter. We’re looking forward to seeing them again and to indulge in some fine eats and good times.
